Meet Beading Designer and Teacher Juliet of Jules & Rose, Eureka's Newest Collaborator!
We’re so excited to welcome Juliet Erskine—the creative force behind Jules & Rose—as our newest collaborator! Juliet brings her love of beads, storytelling, and community into everything she creates. You may have already seen some of Juliet's beautiful beadwork featured in our Design Center in support of August's Mystic Tides Collection now you can get to know her in this Q&A:
Eureka Crystal Beads: Who are you? Introduce yourself and your platform!

Juliet: Hi, I’m Juliet Erskine (pronounced err-skin) and my business name is Jules & Rose. You can find me at www.julesandrose.com, on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. I’m “Jules,” and yes—there is a “Rose”! Rose is the nickname of my dear friend Sarah, who was my original business partner when I started out beading. She lives in Scotland, and when I moved to California in 2016 she graciously allowed me to keep the business name. She’s still a wonderful friend, my sounding board, pattern tester, proofreader, and she helps admin the Facebook group.
ECB: How long have you been beading? How did you get started?
Juliet: I started beading around 2009 in Scotland. I’ve always loved crafts—cross stitch, card making, knitting, crochet, decoupage, painting, miniatures… you name it! Beading began when I bought a craft book that included beaded tassels. My husband traveled a lot for work, so I needed something to keep me busy. I made a few tassels, then with encouragement from family, I took a stall at a small craft fair. From there, I started consigning jewelry and tassels in a wee gallery shop—and to my surprise, things actually sold!

I began learning from magazines and YouTube (back when there were only a handful of channels), and soon I was designing jewelry on my own. The sparkly beads, the colors, the endless possibilities—they hooked me. When Sarah (Rose) and I realized we both loved crafting, we teamed up for beading sessions and more craft fairs. It grew from there.
ECB: What’s your one favorite thing about beading?
Juliet: The satisfaction of transforming simple piles of beads into insanely beautiful three-dimensional jewelry and objects. There’s magic in creating something unique from nothing more than beads and thread.

ECB: If you could only choose one stitch to use forever, what would it be?
Juliet: Netting. (I know that’s a bit of a cheat since most stitches are a type of netting!) But if I can bead a base and then embellish with more layers, I’m happy.

ECB: What’s something you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
Juliet: How many different types, colors, and shapes of beads there are—and that it’s impossible to have them all! No matter how big your stash, it will never feel like enough.
ECB: What’s your favorite project you’ve ever done?
Juliet: I always love my current work in progress because of the joy in watching it appear. Right now, I’m working on a piece for this year’s Battle of the Beadsmith, which is very ambitious and unique—but still under wraps.
From past projects, I’ll always have a soft spot for my Nutcracker Earrings, designed in 2020. They’re cute, fun to make, and have become one of my most popular YouTube tutorials.

ECB: What challenges you most as a designer?
Juliet: Constantly creating new and original designs week after week. Inspiration can come from anywhere—shapes, colors, nature, or even just a stitch I want to try—but the ideas don’t always flow. I keep tubs of “failed experiments” to dig through when I’m stuck, which sometimes spark new projects.
I’d love more time to explore different versions of my favorite designs or bead other designers’ beautiful projects—but with deadlines, I usually have to move straight on to the next idea. There are only so many hours in the day!
Thanks so much to Juliet for sitting down with us for this interview and telling us a little bit about herself and her beading journey. Her creativity, warmth, and dedication to the beading community inspire us, and we can’t wait to see what she creates next! Stay tuned for her upcoming unboxings and inspired jewelry designs!
