Chrysocolla, a mineral known as hydrated copper phyllosilicate, displays a spectrum of colors including green, blue, blue-green, black, and brown. It is commonly sourced from copper mines. While pure chrysocolla is delicate and brittle, most chrysocolla beads are embedded in a matrix of rock crystal (clear quartz) or silica, resulting in physical properties more akin to quartz. The name "chrysocolla" is derived from the Greek "chrysos," meaning "gold," and "kolla," meaning "glue," reflecting its historical use as a flux for soldering gold around 300 BC. Chrysocolla beads are esteemed for their enchanting blend of blue and green tones, often accented by brown or black veining. These natural stone beads are cut and polished by a combination of machine and hand finishing. Due to the way they are processed, the size of beads can differ up to 0.5mm and result in a different strand length. The beauty of natural products is their organic and varied nature so precison and exactness here is not typical of these products. These stone beads are ideal for stringing projects but not reccomened for elaborate beadweaving.
