Standard Bracelet and Necklace Measurements

The following measurements are for average sized adults and are useful if you are crafting a piece for sale to a non specific individual. If, however, you are creating a custom piece for yourself or someone you know, it’s best to measure to ensure the best possible placement and fit.

 

Standard Bracelet Measurements: 

  • 5 to 6 inches – average children’s wrist
  • 7 inches – average woman’s wrist
  • 8 inches – average man’s wrist or woman with larger wrist
  • 9 inches – for man with a larger wrist

 

Standard Necklace Measurements: 

  • 14 to 16 inches  Standard Children’s Necklace
  • 13 to 16 inches – Choker, close-fitting and worn above the collarbone or on the neck
  • 17 to 19 inches – Princess, hangs just below the collarbone and is most commonly seen in the graduated strand (see below)
  • 20 to 24 inches – Matinee, hangs draped on the chest
  • 28 to 32 inches – Opera, an opulent length usually reserved for eveningwear which hangs to the mid-section
  • 45 inches or over – Lariat or Rope, a very long string of beads which can be wrapped or draped, a Rope may or may not have a clasp while a Lariat does not have a clasp.

Styles

  • Graduated – each bead decreasing in size with the largest in front and center.
  • Bib – multiple strands of beads with each strand shorter than the one before it.
  • Uniform – all beads are more or less the same size.
