Beading Wire

Soft Flex is a flexible beading wire made of multiple strands of stainless steel covered with clear or colored nylon. The nylon makes it strong and durable. Beading wire is the material of choice for most bead-stringing needs.  It has an attractive drape, doesn't kink, and is available in many diameters from .010" (very fine) to .024" (heavy). This stringing material doesn’t require a needle so you must use a couple of crimp beads to securely fasten it to a clasp.

Memory wire is a very hard wire that keeps its shape in its coiled form. Since it is so hard, memory wire needs to be cut with memory wire cutters and not regular cutters. If you use regular cutters, they will be ruined. It comes in various sizes to make necklaces, bracelets and rings.

Fireline braided thread is made of gel-spun polyethylene, an extremely strong fiber. It's an especially great choice when bead weaving with crystals, gemstone beads or other beads that may have sharp edges around the holes.  Fireline does come in different thickness like, 2lb., 4lb., 6lb., 8lb., 10 lb., 14lb., 20lb., and 30lb.

DMC Pearl Cotton is a highly mercerized, non-divisible, lustrous 100% cotton thread. The twist of the thread is how it received its “Pearl” description and DMC’s Pearl Cotton is best known as the most beautiful thread in the world. During the manufacturing process, the thread is combed, singed by flame and then double mercerized. It is this double mercerizing which gives it its beautiful pearlised sheen. The thread is soft, silky, does not fluff or kink, and is 100% colorfast. DMC Pearl Cotton Balls come in size 5, 8 and 12, in a 10 gram ball put-up. Pearl cotton is best used for bead crochet. When using Pearl Cotton for crochet it is important to match the proper crochet hook to the size thread you are using. DMC recommends steel crochet hook sizes for the different sizes of Pearl Cotton Balls: Thread size 5 -Hook size 5, Thread size 8 -Hook size 7, Thread size 12 -Hook size 8

You can also use these beautiful threads with kumuhimo braiding or beading crochet. These threads are not recommended for beadweaving

Illusion cord is a clear bead stringing cord which looks a lot like fishing wire.  Illusion jewelry is where the beads look like they are floating on your neck or wrist because it seems like there is no wire between them. Illusion cord is not as durable and strong as beading wire but can be finished the same way.

Elastic cord is a flexible, stretchable cord. It doesn’t require any findings to finish off a jewelry piece made with elastic cord. The ends of elastic cord can be knotted together. Stretch Magic™ is one of the brands available. Elastic cord is mostly used for more casual jewelry.  Make sure to add glue to the knot for added strength.  It also can come in different diameters. Like .5mm, .7mm, .8mm, 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, and 1.8mm.

Gossamer Floss is an amazing stretchy cord. It stretches to 700% or seven times its original size without breaking and losing its memory. It is fine enough to pass through size 11 Japanese seed beads, 3 mm and 4 mm Swarovski Crystal Beads and Czech Glass Beads. Gossamer Floss will not crack or harden over time. It is easy to use, just tie knots to secure. This cord is an excellent choice for stretchy bracelets. Use a big-eye needle and don't crimp it. Crimps will fray the cord or break it entirely.

Genuine Leather Cord is offered in both natural and dyed/coated shades. Leather cords are mostly used for stringing heavier pendants due to its strength and durability.  It may be knotted. Leather cord also comes in many different colors and sizes.  The sizes are .5mm, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm.It also comes in different styles.  The most popular is round, but others are flat, braided, lace, and stitched.

Ultra Micro Fiber Suede is a nice alternative to real suede cord. It is more flexible & incredibly soft, yet strong and durable, making it ideal for creating necklaces, bracelets, or anklets. The specially treated synthetic material does not have a noticeable odor like dyed leather; it will not crack or fray over time; and it's washable. To finish it off you can use fold over crimps, glue in ends, or wire wrap the clasp on.

Natural Hemp Twine is a product made from hemp. The most frequent use of hemp twine is macramé, which is a type of knotting that you can use to make jewelry and other projects. Hemp jewelry includes bracelets, necklaces, anklets, rings, watches and other adornments.  One of the most common ways to finish it off is by using a button or a bead with a loop on the other end.

 

Satin Cord

There are two types of satin cord.  They are rayon satin cord and nylon satin cord.  The rayon satin cord is a high-quality cord with a shiny look and soft satin feel that is made in the USA. It is made from mainly natural fibers woven over a cotton core. Great for beautiful silky necklaces, knotting projects and bridal wear. If you need to seal the ends, be aware that Rayon cannot be heat-sealed so use a drop of super Glue or Fraycheck instead. (The gel form of Super Glue works better.) Nylon satin cord is a durable cord with a nice bulk and feel that is made in China from mainly synthetic fibers. It is great for necklaces and knotting projects and holds up under the wear and tear of children. It comes in different sizes. Nylon satin cord can be melted to seal the end by wisping it through a flame. Don't hold it in the flame too long or it will turn black.

Cotton cording holds knots well, does not crack or flake, and has an attractive surface finish. It comes in different sizes and colors. You have many options for finishing these cords - you can tie cotton cord with a lark's head knot, an adjustable knot or a square knot. You can also finish cotton cording by using coil cord ends or by folding over cord ends or by using a button and a loop.

 

 Waxed Linen 4 ply

Irish waxed linen is a beautiful fiber that is strong, and supple.  It is available in a range of colors and thicknesses.  Irish waxed linen also comes with a protective waxy coating that helps to slightly stiffen the cord and aids with placement of knots and holding of knots when beading. The thickness of the cord is measured in ply’s. “Ply” refers to the number of twisted strands that the cord is made up of, so 7 ply is almost twice as thick as 4 ply. It comes in 2(0.4mm) ply, 3(0.55mm) ply, 4(0.7mm) ply, 7(1.2mm) ply, and 12(1.5mm) ply. Irish waxed linen is mostly used for knotting, macramé, and kumihimo.

 

 Silk String

 Silk string is hand sewn and hand painted with dyes that won’t fade or wear off.   There are many different ways to use the silk strings in jewelry.  Here are a few ways that you can use them: knotting, macramé, and just by themselves with a pendant.  To finish it off you can crimp the ends or tie a lark's head knot, an adjustable knot or a square knot.

These are a more opaque flat ribbon that is hand painted.  They won't bleed or fade, and are hand washable.  Silk ribbons are all about 40-42" long and 2cm wide.  They are used mostly in necklaces but can be used in bracelets too.  Silk ribbons can be used in the same manners as silk string and finished the same ways. 

 

 Fairy Ribbon

Fairy ribbon comes in a full yard in length (40-42" long each). The silk in the main part of these ribbons is sheer and a bit crinkly. The edges are stitched with silk thread and each piece is tapered at the end. This ribbon is great for necklaces or bracelets and can be used in many different techniques like knotting, crimping, and more.  They can be used and finished just like silk string and ribbon.

It is knitted from wires of 99.9% pure permanent enameled copper that are almost as thin as a human hair.
